| 30 August 2005 | National Secondary Schools Tournaments Day 2
| NPGHS continue to be the standout performer at the National Secondary School Hockey Tournaments, winning their pool after defeating St Matthews Collegiate 2-0 yesterday. Helen Riley scored twice, and the side has conceded only one goal so far. NPBHS are well and truly lodged in the bottom half of the Rankin Cup draw after going down 4-0 to fellow Super 8 team Napier BHS.
In the other tournaments, Taranaki sides continue to struggle. At Johnson Cup in Hamilton, NPBHS 2nd XI managed a 1-1 draw with Scots College from Wellington, while Stratford HS lost 7-0 to Wanganui HS. At the Olympic Stick Tournament in Tauranga FDMC went down 4-0 to Pakuranga College, while in Napier the Straford HS girls went down 6-0 to Taradale HS. At Levin St Mary's Diocesan College went down 10-0 to Taradale HS.
At the Mixed Tournament in Strtaford, Pompallier College are definitely the team to beat, dealing to Taumaranui HS by 11-0. Spotswood College managed to even top that score overwhelming Putararu College 12-0, while earlier in the day, Opunake HS defeated Tamaranui 5-0. Waitara HS went down 6-1 to Henderson High School, while Hawera HS lost to Orewa College 4-1.
Teams now go into post section crossover games before semis on Thursday and finals in Friday. | Back to news |
