Tarankai Men's Team Bounces Back

After a shock loss to NZ Army on day one of the National Senior Men's Tournament in Tauranga, Taranaki got back on track with a 7-0 thrashing of NZ Police. "Day one is best forgotten about", said Taranaki coach Marion Webby. "We played well for the first 10 minutes, but our lack of build-up was pretty evident and we didn't really fire a shot."

Today however, the Taranaki side started with much more purpose and penetration with guest player Conrad Yearsley opening the scoring with a neat reverse stick shot. Shane Jackson converted from a penalty corner to give Taranaki a 2-0 lead at the break.

Taranaki completely dominated the second half, and the NZ Police side became resorted to some vigorous tackling to try and stem the flow of Taranaki goals. Carl Marriner contributed two goals in the second half, while Yearsley also added a couple to give him a hat trick, with Carl Peters rounding out the scoring.

Taranaki take on what appears to be a strong Waikato side today, who have had wins over both Tauranga and Hawkes Bay.
